Which administrative documents are required and what budget should be envisaged to begin an assisted reproductive procedure (IVF)?

For intrauterine insemination (IUI) with stimulation of the ovaries

Administrative:

INAMI covers medical acts such as consultations, ultrasound scans, blood tests and IUI. Nevertheless, part of the healthcare costs is covered by your health insurance fund. (third-party payment)

If your doctor decides to stimulate you with gonadotropins and you fulfil the conditions established by INAMI to benefit from this treatment, you will have to file a request with your health insurance fund. (Your doctor will provide you with the document in question).

Financial:

The cost of an IUI attempt depends on the length of the treatment, the therapeutic choices and the medication.

For instance, the price for an IUI attempt for a couple covered by a Belgian health insurance fund is +/- € 230

  • Ultrasound scans  (+/- 5) ± € 50
  • Blood tests  (+/- 6) ± € 60
  • Fixed sum medication  ± € 30   (only for treatment with gonadotropins)
  • IUI ± € 35

Beware!

  • If you are not covered by a Belgian health insurance fund, you have to pay for the entirety of the medical costs yourself.

It is therefore preferable to get in touch with the reproduction department to obtain an estimate adapted to your situation (EEC, etc.).
